Automation can be used for a variety of applications. For special effects, automation can be used for timed "magic" effects with controllable parameters. An example of this is the kitchen table in the Broadway production of
Mary Poppins. PPI created a table that magically breaks in half then uprights itself under it owns power. The mechanics and electrics used for this special effect were completely engineering and designed by PPI. The other effects in the kitchen scene were also created by PPI using a computer-controlled air cylinder system. Click
